Nokia ahoy

Turns out Nokia are trying to re-establish themselves in the ever-changing mobile market. They are buying out Symbian and making it open-source in attempt to beef up their platform.

Sure they dominate the mobile market currently but that domination is sliding. What the industry has found is that the 'platform' is now becoming a major factor of the phone rather than the 'look' of it. Perhaps if Nokia had not spent all that time making 'fashion' phones that were frankly rubbish they would not be in this situation now.

I can't help think this is in vain though. We have developed for the symbian platform releasing a few applications. The trouble was it was a dire platform to work on!

We now have the iPhone platform and also android which are so much nicer to use.  Nokia currently survive because of their brand and reputation, but things change.
